FAMILY HISTORY.

Hi everyone,

Welcome to my family history site.

I am a descendent of white immigrants to Australia.  My family originated in South Australia, the only colony of Australia that did not take convicts.  I don't mention that to denigrate convicts, as they have laid a marvElous foundation for our strongly elagitarian country.  It is simply an interesting aspect of South Australia's history.

DAWSON - CARRICK

In 1995 my great aunty Phyllis Preece turned 100 years old.  She was my father's aunt.  She came out to Australia from the UK in 1905, aged 10 years old.

Her birthday inspired me to research into my family history.  I have since done so, on and off, over the years since.  the advent of the internet has helped family history research enormously.  I have made many contacts via the web with other distant family members.

If any of my family members who are reading this are also interested in contacting these people, just drop me an email and I'll be happy to get you in contact.

I have been putting the findings of my research onto an online family tree website.  The link for that is below:

My Heritage Family Tree Website

Please be assured that all personal details of living members of the family are not available on this site for the general public to see.  If any family members want further details of our family, once again, just drop me an email and I'll help you out.

I'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM FAMILY MEMBERS WHO ARE ALSO INTERESTED IN OUR FAMILY HISTORY  and would love them to add to this site anything of interest to their side of the family.

I'm happy to research as far back as I can and as wide as I can, meaning all different branches of the family; cousins, maiden names and in-laws.

For more details on this please find the link in the navigation bar to the left,

but below are a few interesting items so far...

DAWSONS

Henry Holms, (born abt. 1605)

I have managed to trace the family back to 1605, with Henry Holms, who is ultimately an ancestor of my father Alfred Edward (Ted) Dawson.

Alfred John West (early filmmaker)

I have also recently been in contact with members of the West side of the family.  One member of that family was Alfred John West, who was an early, and very successful,  pioneer in moving pictures in Britian.

For more information on him go to the following website, which is run by a distant cousin and descendant of Alfred J West:

Alfred Edward Dawson.

My own father, Alfred Edward Dawson.  Born 6th July 1927, passed away on September 7th, 2007, aged 80 years and two months.I will include some photos of him over the years from his youth to his old age.
Here is a picture of my mum and dad, Ted and Bette soon after their engagement in 1950.

Love you dad, know you are happy now with your friends, and are keeping a place warm for mum.

Jeremy Dawson

My nephew, Dad's grandson, Jeremy Dawson, has written a beautiful tribute to my Dad, and it can be found here.
